Hachi lived for 10 years in the garden of a single-storey house in Athens, and his future was uncertain as his guardian would move to a nursing home, and the house would be rented. A short time later, unfortunately, his guardian passed away, and no relative had the ability to take him. Therefore, he was handed over to the municipality, as the law dictates. Fortunately, a solution was quickly found for him, and he avoided the (possibly indefinite) stay in a shelter cage. Today, he is being fostered in the home of volunteers, along with several other animals (cats & dogs), and he is seeking a permanent family.

Hachi was born in 2013 and weighs approximately 18-20kg. Initially, he was a dog that didn’t engage much with people (having not met many), barked at all the dogs passing by his garden (having not met any), and lacked the disposition or courage to leave the yard (the door was open, and he couldn’t even imagine taking a step outside). During his time in foster care, he has experienced a lot of things he missed in the previous 10 years. Hachi has made leaps of progress, from taking 2 hours to put a leash on him and him biting out of stress, to now enjoying walks without pulling and following his companion. He is more accepting of people now, with the right approach, and once trust is built, he might even seek petting and contact. He is a low energy, “low maintenance” dog and can be an excellent companion for someone who enjoys calm walks.
